Turkey Chili*

I've made a mini resolution to cook more. Food tastes better when you make it for others. Don't get me wrong, it tastes pretty damn good when Asian Grandma makes it too.

But in an effort to pitch in at meal time, I'm trying out some different recipes. The ones that make the cut, I'll share with you.

This one definitely made the cut. Turkey chili from Allrecipes.com.

My modifications:

--Added a can of mild green chilis

--Omitted cayenne pepper. As much as I love when Emmy says, "'Picy" instead of "Spicy," I didn't want her to cry herself to sleep with fire in her toddler mouth.

--Used about 2/3rds pound of ground turkey and it was plenty of meat

--Did not smash the kidney beans. Who wants smashed beans when you can have whole beans?

--Only added ONE cup of water, and it was enough. Thickened up nicely the next day too.

Garnish with shredded cheddar jack cheese, some corn bread and chips and it's a meal worthy of a hard day on the frontier. Or at the mall.

Next time I'm adding some white beans. Beanier = better. And tons of entertainment throughout the evening. If you're into that kind of thing.

You squish the kidney beans so you don't have to look at them. For the record, as a child of Florida, I have personal knowledge that they look like large bug larvae. Sorry, but the truth must be spoken. On a more mature note, try black beans in your chili sometime. Great earthy flavor... but not as much entertainment afterward.

NFGM: So it's a visual thing...well, I have to say, my baby is none the wiser. She likes picking up the bug larvae and exclaiming, "BEAN!" before chowing down. That is her truth and I will not share with her the larvae imaging until she's 21 years of age.
